On this year’s festival theme of ‘Home is Where I Want to Be…’ Jazzwise Magazine writer Selwyn Harris introduces and hosts a discussion on the Hollywood jazz life feature Paris Blues. Set in Paris in the early 1960s, two American expatriate jazz musicians played by Paul Newman and Sidney Poitier fall in love with a pair of American tourists and must choose between returning home or remaining in a city that offers each of them personal and artistic freedoms. While the story unfolds against a backdrop of drugs and romance, Duke Ellington’s score, only his second following Anatomy of a Murder, lights up the very best scenes.
